Be a part of Liam Gillick’s And Then… a spoken word film festival, bring a movie in your head, share the plot. Join us at Mother Macs every night during our opening weekend and every Thursday during EVA International.
And Then… is a spoken word film festival. Taking place at Mother Macs pub, a place of conviviality and storytelling, of meeting, of drinking, a place where it would not be surprising if someone were to stand up and speak. The festival programme includes a series of films chosen by the artist, curator, and participants in the work. Participants take turns at a microphone to tell the plot of their chosen film. At the beginning of each film, there is no indication of what film is being described. There are no limits to the length or brevity of their presentation and the same film can be described multiple times within the duration of the festival.
‘In a dystopian future, the totalitarian nation of Panem is divided into 12 districts and the Capitol. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate. Part entertainment, part brutal retribution for a past rebellion, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem. The 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors while the citizens of Panem are required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss' young sister, Prim, is selected as District 12's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, are pitted against bigger, stronger representatives, some of whom have trained for this their whole lives.’
